Have you ever had a moment where you look back at it seconds later and go “What the f**k just happened?” I had one of those last Wednesday night, on my way home from my second job. My usual drive takes me through back country roads, meaning lots of fields and trees. My moment was when I saw a deer standing in the middle of the road, and I didn’t have time to stop.
That moment still plays through my head a week later. I slammed on my brakes, hit the deer with the front of my SUV, and screamed. The first thing I did when I stopped was get out to look for the deer I had hit. I was alright, the car was under control, and I wanted to see how badly the deer was hurt. Let me tell you it is not easy trying to see more than 10 feet in front of you with your phone light. But I saw the deer getting up from a creek it had been thrown into and running off. No sign of a limp and using all four legs. I pray the deer survived.
After that, a good Samaritan stopped to see what was going on. It was an off-duty officer on his way home. Let me just say how lucky I was that it was him, because I was still collecting my thoughts and trying to figure out what to do next.
Fast forward to getting home after midnight, and Brian’s awake to hold me and give me tea while I finish calming down. I just need to say, I’m incredibly grateful he was there for me. Having someone with me to help me calm down enough to sleep without freaking out themselves is a real gift. And then having him with me while I dealt with the insurance to keep me from exploding over the paperwork! I have had my SUV less then two months, so there was extra paperwork for the insurance.
Sharing the intense moments like last week, and the quieter ones as well, with someone is what makes life worth living in my opinion. Humans are not meant to be alone and finding a partner to share life with is why The Dating Warriors are here. Whether it’s scary moments like last week or helping cook Ostara (Easter) dinner for the family.
Those moments create memories that can be pulled out and treasured for many years to come. Those memories are what shape you and your relationships. Do you see why they are important? Think back to your past relationships and the memories that come to mind. Good or bad, they reflect on what you want today.
So I hope you can eventually look back at those memories and smile!
Everything in life is worth it, whether we see it or not. Blessings come in small packages and sometimes they hit us right in the face. Its being open to learning the lessons of life that help us grow. Most of us don’t want to go through the shit storms of life, but it’s the only way we will learn. We have to grow. We have to succeed. We have to achieve SOMETHING, otherwise life is pointless. In the moments of the deer and our car, it gave us another reason to be grateful for each other and everything we have. We all long for the same change. We want to go from being sad to smiling again, but we just don't know how. For most people, having their car hit by a deer, they'd be in a rage. That could've been the situation, but we have each other to lean on. That's what makes it worth it. Having friends, loved ones who care for us and support us during the hard times.
